“Great change often begins with a single question — how can we make things better?”

In October 2021, during a challenging phase of the founder’s career, he faced the same struggles that many healthcare quality professionals continue to experience — limited job opportunities, lack of visibility, and minimal professional support. Despite dedication and expertise, finding the right career path was often difficult, even on platforms like LinkedIn. Instead of accepting this reality, the founder decided to take action. A small WhatsApp peer network was created to connect healthcare quality professionals — a space to share job vacancies, exchange best practices, and support one another’s growth. What started as a simple idea soon flourished into a thriving community. The initiative expanded to a LinkedIn page, which now connects over 31k professionals from across the globe. Driven by the belief that healthcare quality professionals deserve better — recognition, opportunity, and empowerment, this spark gave rise to the Association for Healthcare Quality Professionals (AHQP).

Today, AHQP is a registered non-profit organization under Section 8 of the Companies Act, Ministry of Corporate Affairs – India, transforming that vision into a dynamic international movement. From a single WhatsApp group to a global platform, AHQP continues to empower healthcare quality professionals through learning, research, networking, and recognition, fostering a culture where quality and safety define the heart of healthcare.

Founder & Chairman

Anand Sankar

Mr. Anand Sankar, a Certified ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, brings over a decade of experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, and hospital administration. He holds a Master’s degree in Hospital Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. With extensive expertise in leading accreditation programs such as JCI, NABH, ISO, CAHO, and ACHSI, he has played a pivotal role in driving quality and safety initiatives across healthcare organizations.

In 2021, he initiated a peer network for healthcare quality professionals — a platform that has since evolved into the Association for Healthcare Quality Professionals (AHQP), a non-profit organization registered under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. AHQP is committed to empowering healthcare professionals through education, training, research, and collaboration, fostering a unified voice for quality improvement in healthcare.

He is also the visionary behind the World Healthcare Quality Professional Day, observed annually on 7th January, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Avedis Donabedian, the Father of Healthcare Quality. Dr. Donabedian’s renowned Structure–Process–Outcome model remains a cornerstone of healthcare quality worldwide. Beginning January 7th, 2026, AHQP will celebrate this day each year to honor and recognize healthcare quality professionals globally — promoting excellence, knowledge sharing, and collaboration toward safer, patient-centered care.
